Turn a Website SEO Audit into a Prioritised Fix List

Updated 25 October 2026. An audit is useful when it tells you what to fix and how to verify the change. A score alone does neither. Reownix’s Website SEO audit samples publicly reachable pages and produces an action plan; it cannot guarantee Google indexing, rankings, traffic or AdSense approval.
Start with a representative URL
Open Website SEO audit and enter a public page you own or are authorised to assess. Use the final HTTPS address after redirects. Audit a service page, an article and the homepage separately when they have different templates. A small sample cannot establish that every page on a large website is correct.
Do not submit private dashboard URLs or links containing access tokens. Reownix’s SEO tools fetch public pages through its server, unlike local image and PDF tools. A login wall, blocked request or JavaScript-only response may prevent the audit from seeing the same content that a visitor sees.
Fix in this order
| Priority | Question | Verification |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Access | Can the intended page load without a login or error? | Open the final URL anonymously; inspect its status and content |
| 2. Indexing intent | Should this page appear in search? | Check robots directives and the canonical; keep private and utility pages excluded appropriately |
| 3. Page identity | Do the title, main heading and description explain this specific page? | Read the rendered page and its document metadata |
| 4. Usefulness | Does the page answer the visitor’s actual task? | Complete the task and note gaps, errors and unclear instructions |
| 5. Discovery | Can visitors and crawlers reach it through normal links? | Follow links from the homepage or relevant guide and check the sitemap |
Make titles and descriptions distinct
A page title should identify the subject and, where useful, the brand. Avoid giving every service page the same list of keywords. Write a description that explains the actual content instead of promising a result the business cannot provide. Google may choose a different title or snippet in search results; editing metadata does not force an immediate display change.
Use Google’s title-link guidance and snippet guidance when reviewing these fields. Keep the visible main heading clear and give subtopics meaningful headings.
Check canonical and sitemap consistency
If the public website uses HTTPS, links, canonical URLs and sitemap addresses should consistently point to the preferred HTTPS version. A canonical is a preference signal for duplicate or similar pages, not a way to fix a broken page. Avoid redirecting every missing URL to the homepage; a genuinely missing page should give an appropriate response and useful navigation.
Convert findings into actions
For each issue, record the affected URL, the evidence, the proposed change, the owner and the verification step. For example: “The contact page has a generic homepage description; write a contact-specific description, save it, and confirm the live meta tag.” This is more actionable than “Improve SEO score.”
Use the SEO campaign & reports tool to organise follow-up work. Keep a dated copy of important findings. Compare the same URLs after changes; a different sample can change the score even when the site has not changed.
Do not confuse local checks with Google data
Use Search Console for Google-specific indexing and search performance evidence. Reownix’s audit does not reproduce Google’s crawler, measure your rankings or independently verify every business listing and backlink. Schema markup must describe real visible content, and adding it does not guarantee a rich result.
Repeat the visitor test
After technical fixes, test the navigation, mobile layout, form instructions and downloads again. Pages with valid metadata can still provide a poor experience. Google’s SEO Starter Guide is a useful reference for connecting technical work with helpful content.
